why r toothpastes generally basic?

because they can neutralise the acids produced by the bacteria in the mouth and hence prevent dental plague.

Beacuse after eating ,, the bacteria present in the mouth convert sugar into acidic sustances i.e the ph of mouth falls below 5.5
therefore to neutralize this condition toothpaste are basic in nature...........
