there is no need to learn the periodic table you just go through it and only the odern periodis table has to be memorized.

Modern periodic table is important. At least know the first 30 elements according to the atomic numbers.

yup.its always better to learn 1st 30elements.
but in exam point of view u'l hav to remember only the trends.
atleast learn d names of alkalimetals n halogens.

sabhi ko all d best...in advance.....

remember that the no of shells would give the period no, no of valence e- would give the group no, if the element has 4 valance e- then it will belong to the 14th group.....

for class 10 level u shd learn just the first 20 elements with their name n symbol.
also variation in periodic properties.
1)no of valence shell.... Increases down the group, Remains same across the period
2)no of valence electrons.....Increases across the epriod, remains same down the group
3) atomic radii....Increases down the group, decreases across the period(reason points 1 n 2)
4)Ionization enthalpy....Decreases down the group, increases across the period( reason point 3 above)
5) electron gain enthalpy....decreases down the grp, increses across the period( point 3)
6) metallic character...increases DTG, Decreses ATP(point 4)
7)elctron affinity... decreses DTG, increases ATP( point 3 above)
